We contracted Robert as a builder for the conversion of the studio at our Wooloweyah house into a fully detached bedroom with ensuite (see below).

The project was not a ”straight‐forward” building job and involved using all recycled hardwoods which had to be extensively prepared before installation. Throughout the project we found Rob’s work to be meticulous and his ideas for potential adjustments to the original design to be both helpful and insightful. Robert was initially recommended to me by a local real estate contact; my subsequent experience has been an entirely positive one.

We own an investment property in Byron Bay which was built in the 1980s and which was in need of a
complete modernising renovation; together with innumerable essential repairs and improvements.

Although I reside in Melbourne and am rarely able to travel up to Byron bay, Robert and I were able to work together very effectively via remote communication – through efficient and clear emails, computer generated 3D sketch drawings/plans, scanned documents, digital photographs etc – to achieve a project outcome that exceeded my expectations. Specifications were met to the letter, on time and within budget.

Robert and his team remained in close contact through every step of the process, and were great communicators. It was easy to understand and comment on the plans, interior design concepts, structural improvement ideas and finishing details etc throughout the entire process. When the odd inevitable unexpected challenge arose, Robert was a quick phone call or email away; making communication across more than 1600kms a breeze.

Robert’s interior designer wife Antoinette designed the kitchen, bathroom and WC, and also assisted with the interior colour scheme/walls; completely transforming what were previously confined and dull spaces. The finished results are excellent – an open, modern, functional living space which has added real and intangible value to the property.

I have engaged the building services from Robert Ensbey from 1997 until 2004 when he and family departed Sydney.

During this time Robert transformed many of my basic old cottages along the waterfront in Sydney and he was involved in design, DA and undertook the building operation to completion.

The works and finishes were superb and greatly enhanced the selling ability of the properties.

I am delighted to write this reference for Robert Ensbey. Over the summer of 2004/5 Robert designed and built several additions to our house in Avalon. These were; a new front veranda and entrance, an enlarged lounge room, and a large covered back deck.

Robert agreed a budget with us, prepared all the plans and obtained all the necessary permissions from counsel. He undertook most of the building work himself, but where necessary he subcontracted the skills needed (ie. glazing and plastering). We found Robert very easy to deal with, he was professional, meticulous and thoughtful throughout, and brought in our project within both time and budget.
